Netham Park Pavilion for Bristol City Council, is situated in the centre of Netham Park, on a high embankment that divides the park into two levels. From the main entrance the upper level appears as a single storey element containing community room, kiosk and Park Rangers offices. The lower level is cut into the bank and addresses the new sports pitches it contains eight changing rooms, toilets and storage areas.
Part of the brief was to delivery an exemplar sustainable building and this has been successfully achieved in number of ways. Energy efficiency is achieved by use of a Biomass boiler, insulation levels in excess of current regulations, extensive use of thermal mass – including setting the building into the earth bank and extensive use of daylighting.
Other aspects of sustainability incorporated include: responsible specification of materials, extensive SUDS drainage system and cycle facilities.
