1 Bridewell Street, Bristol
For MEPC and Ernst and Young
Bridewell Street was developed as the South West Regional office
of the accountants Ernst & Young. The client’s brief
called for a high profile, but timeless, design with considerable
flexibility in use, and an excellent professional working environment.
The building is planned around a full height glazed entrance
atrium providing immediate orientation upon entering the building.
Circulation galleries overlook the atrium and give dramatic
views down into the space and out across the city. This location
required the use of air-conditioning, but the building was designed
to reduce energy consumption. Building Research Establishment
research confirms that energy use is nevertheless extremely
low.
