Quakers Friars, Cabot Circus, Bristol

For the Bristol Alliance

(Land Securities and Hammersons)

As part of the recently completed award-winning re-vitalisation of the cenral shopping district of Bristol, Alec French Architects are responsible for the design of the area immediately around the listed Quakers Friars buildings.

The scheme creates a new civic space with restaurants, cafes and small specialist shops. A new retail spine provides a link between the further proposed retail to the east, and the existing retail and the rest of the City centre. Residential accommodation is provided in a new landmark tower rising over the main retail block.

Winner of the BREEAM Retail Award; the MAPIC EG Retail Award for Best Shopping Centre; the In-Town Retail Scheme of the Year and the Supreme Gold Award by the British Council of Shopping Centres; and the Bristol Civic Society Environmental Award.
