Goldney Hall, Bristol
For University of Bristol
Winner of a national limited architectural competition for new
and refurbished accommodation. The site is adjacent to the C18th
Goldney House and its formal gardens.
The scheme extends and enhances 1960's residential buildings
around a new courtyard, using forms and materials related to
the sensitive context. New 2-storey accommodation encloses a
second courtyard providing a new entrance, additional study
bedrooms and communal facilities. Extensive hard and soft landscaping
complements the historic gardens. Rooms, in self-catering flats,
are planned to encourage sociability and the views of the surrounding
landscape are exploited wherever possible.
